Acoma Pottery - Desert Museum Store

Acoma pueblo is located in south central New Mexico. The Acoma people, or “People of the White Rock” have been making thin-walled white pots with intricate designs since the eighteenth century.  When the railroad came through neighboring Laguna Pueblo, Acoma potters jumped on the new tourist market.  Large ollas used for gathering water and storing food gave way to smaller transportable pots that tourists desired (Hayes, Blom, 44).  Today there are many potters in Acoma making stunning and unique pottery.  Here we offer you a glimpse of some of our favorites.
