Adolpho "Fito" Sandova Tena - Desert Museum Store

Adolpho “Fito” Sandova Tena is the husband of Emilia Mora, one of the pioneers of the famous Mata Ortiz pottery.  He is the son of Beto and Sofia Tena and works in their style.
Fito is the original master in the style of Mata Ortiz pottery in which almost the entire surface of the pot is incised with deep indentations into the clay for the very interesting “corregated” texture on matte bodies with highly burnished tops/rims.  The result is stunning.  He has consistently won awards for his work, including in the 2008 and 2009 Concurso, the juried pottery show in Mata Ortiz that is produced through the Mexican government agency FONART.  Fito has won 1st prize in a previous Concurso competiton in the category for New Concepts.  Collectors rave about these pieces.
