Carla's grandmother was Fannie Nampeyo-Polacca, and her father was Thomas Polacca who taught her the fundamentals of pottery making. Carla is known for both painted designs as well as carved designs in her pottery much like her father, Thomas Polacca became famous for.  She was born in  1975, a member of the Snow Clan, on the Hopi-Tewa reservation.
