Charlie Favour was born in Prescott, Arizona in 1950. Throughout his childhood he was influenced by his surroundings—both at rodeos and ranches, and at the age of eleven he took up braiding. In 1970 Charlie opened a leather and Native American art store in Aspen, Colorado. It was at this time that he began doing leather work professionally. In 1980 he moved to Northern New Mexico where he continued his leatherwork and also became involved in the fly fishing business. He currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he continues to make fine jewelry.
Charlie’s most renowned pieces are his bracelets. His process is completely unique; after years of making his bracelets, he has the process down to a science. He begins with a piece of copper, which he bends into the shape of a bracelet. Next, he wraps the copper mold in leather, and tops the bracelet with minute squares of turquoise and spiny oyster—all of which he cuts himself. Each bracelet has stylized sterling silver edging and caps as well. These bracelets are not only beautiful, but they are comfortable to wear.
