Eli Navarrete - Desert Museum Store
Eli Navarrete is a second generation master potter from Mata Ortiz. He learned from his uncle, Macario Ortiz, and in the late 1990's he perfected the application of multi-colors using commercial mineral paints. Eli is a master of
design, and by studying any of his pieces one is astounded by the detail and
surprise the more one looks at a pot: his work is a marvel of complexity. Eli tells us that today his colored paints are made from
natural minerals that he digs and prepares himself from the surrounding
hills near his home in Casas Grandes, as well as minerals he digs from old mines near Chihuahua City where he lived for a period of time.
