Jesse Monongya - Desert Museum Store
Jesse Lee Monongya was raised in New Mexico’s famous Navajo rug center
of Two Gray Hills where he observed the fine craft of weaving
throughout his childhood. He attributes much of his influence to the
soothing sound of the loom and the songs that the weavers sang. He was
raised by his adopted parents and did not know his true father,
Preston, until his adult life. Preston Monongye was also an
accomplished jeweler.
Much of Jesse's work has been influenced by the
teachings and memories of his Hopi and Navajo grandfathers. His inlay
work is considered to be among the finest today. Jesse’s pieces range
from simple silver to intricate and colorful inlay designs.
