Lydia Quezada is considered the best female potter in Mata Ortiz and Nuevas Casas Grandes. Her work, at times, is miraculous in execution.  During the late 1990s, Lydia established the rendering of pottery rims in varying shapes and cuts which spread throughout the village when other potters saw for the first time Lydia’s black pots featured on the cover of Mexico’s prestigious magazine, Artes de Mexico, in September 1999.
