Marcellus & Elizabeth Medina - Desert Museum Store

Elizabeth and Marcellus Medina are both wonderful artists who come from different traditions.  Marcellus was born into the Zia Pueblo in 1954 and is a fine painter, and Elizabeth into the Jemez Pueblo in 1956 and loves to pot. Marcellus learned to pot and paint from his immediate family in Zia and Marcellus learned to become a great potter from her mother-in-law, Sofia Medina.  As it turns out however, Elizabeth is probably the finest of all traditional Zia potters working clay today while Marcellus is a wonderful painter and often decorates their pots with his Pueblo dancers.  The two of them worked together on a magnificent pot that was awarded to the winning teeam in the inaugural New Mexico Bowl in 2006.
