Noé Quezada - Desert Museum Store

Noé Quezada Olivas is Juan Quazada’s eldest son and, as such, is the heir apparent to his father.  Of all the Quezada children, Noé is the best potter and painter of ollas and in the early 1990s developed a style of painting unique among the potters of Mata Ortiz.  He used the same long sweeping arcs and bands as his father, but within those bands he painted tiny checks and dots that give the designs a “computer board” look.  Noé used to enjoy making fish, frogs, owls, and human effigy pots with his distinct painting emblazoned across their surfaces, but he seldom makes them today.  His recent work looks more like his father’s, utilizing the minimalist style of painting with more open space on the pottery surface.

Noé and his wife, Betty Quintana de Quezada, live along the Palanganas River in Barrio Central.
