Ray Tracey - Desert Museum Store

Internationally and nationally renowned artist, Ray Tracey is recognized as one of the most respected contemporary Native American Jewelers.  He not only designs traditional Navajo Old Style jewelry, but also remains on the cutting edge of contemporary design.  His inlay work is unmistakable with vibrant stones such as lapis, corals and turquoise set in sterling silver and 14K gold.

Born and raised on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, Ray began making jewelry at the age of nine; he now has been working professionally as a jeweler since 1977.  Drawing from skills that are passed down generation to generation in American Indian tradition, he forms his inspirations into wearable art.  Design ideas come to Ray at different moments rather than anything that is forced. “Designing jewelry is a gift.  It’s a God-given talent.  The inspiration hits me.  Without it I couldn’t design my way out of a paper bag,” Ray Tracey says.
