Virginia & Salvador Baca - Desert Museum Store
Salvador Baca and his wife, Virginia Lozoya de Baca, were born in Mata Ortiz and have been potting since 1995. He learned first from Gloria Lozoya de Veloz, his wife’s sister, and later from Jorge Quintana after the family moved to Nuevo Casas Grandes to enroll their children in one of the better Morman schools.
Salvador and
Virginia work together:
Virginia forms the clay and
Salvador paints the surface. Their pieces are delicate works with sparkling designs on black, stone-polished clay.
Salvador’s designs are well executed in a unique non-traditional style that utilizes both the open spacing of the Quezada style and the free-form designs of the Porvenir style. He comes from a talented family of potters which includes his cousins, Taurina Baca and Luz Elva Ramírez.?xml:namespace>
