Badger Fetish: Ronold Lunasee

Ronald’s mother and father are Eunice Quandelacy and James Lunasee, which makes him a member of the Lunasee, Tsethlikai and Chavez families of fetish carvers. The badger is often associated with the direction South and the color red. Badger fetishes are used throughout the Pueblos, as they are helpers of medicine men in their quest to dig roots and herbs for healing ceremonies. Like most badgers, this little badger is low to the ground with a large head. The alabaster is a striated red/yellow color and eyes are set with two dots of turquoise. This carving could be easily carried in ones pocket for protection particularly when traveling in the direction of south we have been told. (JH)
