Mountain Lion Fetish: Stewart Lasiloo

Stewart Lasiloo is a member of the Mahooty, Lasiloo and Laiwakete families of Zuni carvers and as typical of other members of his family, this piece is highly stylized. He has added a turquoise “heart line” to one side of the animal and tied a “medicine bundle” made of mother of pearl, coral, turquoise, and shell heishi on the top of its back. Two dots of turquoise represent the lion’s eyes. For the price, this is an excellent piece. (JH)
