Dennis Hogan: Braided Elk Hide Concho Belt and Buckle

This incredible belt and buckle was made by Santa Fe artist Dennis Hogan in the fall of 2008.  Attached to the belt (made of ten strips of elk hide that Dennis tanned, cut, and braided himself) are eight conchos.  Each sterling silver concho was handmade by Dennis using repousse, stampwork, and the soldering of tiny sterling silver balls.  The conchos measure 2 1/4 inches wide and 2 inches tall.  The sterling silver buckle was made using the same painstaking techniques.  The buckle is attached to the belt by a 1944 Liberty dime, and can be removed to wear with another belt if someone chose to do so.  This belt is unlike any we have ever seen and would surely capture the attention of an entire room.  Absolutely stunning.
