Fluorite Bear Fetish: Lena Boone

Lena comes from the well-known Teddy Weahkee family of carvers. Her mother was the famous carver Edna Leki and she is married to Rignie Boone: all excellent carvers from Zuni, NM.

This fetish is of particular interest in that there are two bears depicted in the fetish: the first image is in the shape itself and the second image arises from the manner in which Lena used the fluorite inclusion within the stone to trace an outline of a second bear that lives within the first. It is a remarkable piece and is typical of Lena’s work. Stunning!

The bear fetish is tied with an arrowhead of mother of pearl with touches of coral and turquoise beads. Its eyes are inlayed with dots of turquoise. This is a beautiful piece! (JH)
