Frog Carving: David Yazzie

This great stone carving of a frog by David Yazzie is another example of a form that is both realistic in detail and captures the essence of the animal. It could be an example of the red-spotted toad as the spots on the frog’s back are set with red dots of pipestone. Frogs are associated with the coming of the summer rain and the fertility of both plants and animals. Just a terrific piece. (JH)
