Gary Gutierrez Santa Clara Blackware Figurines

Highly polished finish on the vessel, hair, and loincloth are the focus of this figurine in matte blackware.  The figure depicted with a drawn bow of carved wood, has the gloss finish on the hair and loincloth on matte blackware.  Both figures possess fine proportions and defined musculature. 

The Gutierrez family is one of the "fourteen families" of three or more generations of Pueblo potters.   Gary is the great-grandson of renowned Pueblo potters Evangelio (Van) and Lela, and is continuing the unique black on black pottery design detour first exhibited by his parents Paul and Dorothy in the 1970s.
