Jesse Monongya 14K gold bracelet set with coral, turquoise, clam shell, and onyx. In cross section the bracelet is "domed" a technique difficult to achieve. This bracelet is a size 6 1/2 and measures 1 1/8-inch in width.
Jesse Monongya: 14 K Gold Bracelet with "Domed Lapidary"
This one-of-a-kind Jesse Monongya bracelet was made sometime
in the late 1970s, but we purchased it from a trader in Zuni, New Mexico in 1988. The cuff is 1-1/16" wide of 14K gold and inlaid with
"domed" turquoise, coral, clam shell, and black jet. It will fit a medium sized women's wrist.
This is one of Jesse Monongya's earlier pieces as it does not have any of his now famous celestial, bear, or later stylistic motifs. The inside of the bracelet is stamped with his name. Jesse's precise inlay work, attention to detail, and element of surprise in each of his designs is evident in this early piece. Simply stunning! (JH)
