Preston Duwyenie: Night Sky Hopi Olla

Hopi artist Preston Duwyenie's Night Sky is a stunning work of black micacious clay that simulates a dark sky with billions and billions of stars scattered across its surface. On the top of this obelisk/egg shaped mini-vase is a crescent moon of tufa-cast silver with Preston’s characteristic ripple marks across both sides of the moon.This olla is a prime example of Preston Duwyenie's innovative contemporary artwork. His addition of silver elements into his pottery pieces makes him one of the best contemporary potters of all the pueblos in the Southwest today. (KY)
